Forever Young

Matt and I are hooked on the NBC show Parenthood. It's well written, fast paced, all too realistic, heartwarming and funny. Now that we are parents, I guess I understand the theme song a little more. It's exactly what I want for my children and it's always getting stuck in my head. It's a little Bob Dylan blessing that I sing over my children.

Forever Young
by Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

I love this blessing so much. Because I long for my daughters to hold on to their joy and innocence, their honesty and ability to live in the present. I long for my children to understand living and loving.

I'm so glad Mr. Dylan understood this and put it all to music for me. When it comes to living and loving, that Mr. Dylan guy really gets it.
