Woman. Wo-man. Woahhhhhh-man.
My friend and doula, Kim Mellberg sent me the link to this video.
So many things change when you become a mother, your tummy being one of them.
My favorite part is when they show images from nature that resemble our tattered tummies. It's as if women are this incredible link to the circle of life and as mothers we participate in the cycle of nature in a different way than before.
Watching this brought healing tears for me, as I listened to each woman tell her story and her own perspective about having once housed new life.
It also gave me new perspective about my cesarean section scar...it's something I've been unsettled about, but I love the idea of showing my daughters the "place where you came out"...!
This video is one of many exhibitions from Your Voices on Motherhood
Astrid Alauda (psychology author) adds some humor to it in her quote, "There comes a time when a woman needs to stop thinking about her looks and focus her energies on raising her children. This time comes at the moment of conception. A child needs a role model, not a supermodel. "

this is so wonderful. i've lately been missing my "old" body and this certainly helped me appreciate, more, the new one i now have. how can i despise the changes in my tummy when i have the most beautiful little human to show for it?
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy...and for what it's worth, you look incredible! Being a mom is so humbling... :)
